Island Beach State Park

A preserved barrier of ten miles of sandy beach, an extensive shoreline along Barnegat Bay, dense maritime forests, rolling sand dunes, and tidal marshes. Home to a variety of wildlife and more than 400 species of plants. Can swim or surf fish on the beach or take a short drive to the boardwalks and beaches of Seaside Heights. Fee.

Jenny Jump State Forest

330 State Park Rd., Blairstown NJ 07844. 908-459-4366. Eleven miles of hiking trails and three miles of hiking /mountain bike trails offer magnificent views of the mountains and scenic Mountain Lake. The Summit Trail, at an elevation of 1,090 feet, offers a view of the Delaware Water Gap and the Pequest Valley. Free/Fee.
