School

On field trips, students will acquire both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. Programs touch on a variety of subjects, from ecology and gardening to the natural history and features of New Jersey. Students can learn about the role of trees in nature, and explore their structures; use their five senses to explore seasonal change; examine rock types and fossils, and simulate the rock cycle; or learn about seed growth, plant seeds in pots, and even make a terrarium to take home.

Reeves-Reed Arboretum

This arboretum includes 6 acres of natural woodlands and gardens, both historic and new. View azaleas, perennials, roses, heirloom trees, and landscapes that preserve the vision of 19th- and 20th-century gardens; and enjoy historic exhibits such as art in the Wisner House gallery, outdoor sculpture, and the library lounge. The Arboretum offers group tours on botany and history, educational field trips, and seasonal activities.

Scouts

Scouts can visit the Arboretum to work on badge activities. Boy Scouts of all levels can explore the Arboretum to learn about animals, plants, and habitats. Activities may involve learning about the garden, exploring compost, having a lesson on trees, and more. The Arboretum is also a great place for them to practice bird identification and bird watching. Girl Scouts of all levels can visit to work on their corresponding Naturalist badges – exploring insects, flowers, trees, and more. Campers can enjoy a guided or self-guided visit to the Arboretum, and can explore its historic gardens and sites; as well as a mile of wooded hiking trails.
