School

Field trip programs are available for students in grades 3rd-12th on Tuesday-Thursday. Students will learn about the lives of Revolutionary War soldiers, General Washington’s leadership skills, and more. Activities include guided walks to the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts, touring Washington's Headquarters, and much more. All programs align with Pennsylvania learning standards for social studies and leadership. Program group minimums can be adjusted for school groups with special needs. Field trips must be reserved at least 10 days in advance. Be sure to pack lunches for a picnic at Wayne's Woods or in the Varnum's Picnic Areas on-site.

Visit the place where General George Washington and his staff lived and worked for six months during the American Revolutionary War. The most significant historical sites, such as Washington’s Headquarters, are outlined on the 10-mile self-guided driving tour called The Encampment Tour. Guided trolley and walking tours are also available, which give insight to various topics from the Valley Forge winter encampment through monuments, historic structures, and more. Students, scouts, homeschoolers, and campers are welcome to enjoy the park’s 19.5 miles of hiking trails, 21 miles of biking trails, 227 species of birds, and 17 miles of horse trails. Cell Phone Tour narration is available to aid in self-guided tours. Park rangers in period dress lead guided tours.

Homeschool

Homeschoolers can participate in Homeschool Days at Valley Forge during the spring and fall. Homeschool Days incorporate a variety of fun activities focusing on the Revolutionary War and 18th-century America. Homeschoolers will learn about military defense, weaponry, 18th-century medicine, espionage, iron forging, natural resources, and more. Homeschoolers can also enjoy a printing press activity and explore colonial fashion. Other educational programs aim to teach homeschoolers about the lives of Revolutionary War soldiers, General Washington’s leadership skills, and other topics. Field trips must be booked at least 10 days in advance.
