Amazement Square

Campers will see, touch, explore and discover a whole new dimension of learning at Amazement Square. Groups can schedule one of their hands-on educational programs. The Museum Exploration includes a brief orientation followed by a self-guided tour of the innovative, interdisciplinary exhibitions. The Discovery Programs bring a hands-on approach with topics ranging from dinosaurs to circuit building. Enhanced programs allow campers to investigate in a a whole new way. Campers will be able to explore the solar systems, zoom in on the surface of each planet, recognize constellations, and watch the phases of the moon in slow motion in the planetarium or learn the parts of plants and what is needed to make them grow while exploring Amazement Square’s learning garden. Enhanced Programs can be added on to a Museum Exploration or Discovery Program. Amazement Square also offer an Adaptive Arts Program for special education groups.

Museums Fun Facts

Museums are collections - of artifacts, paintings, etc. Talk about what types of collections campers have at home – be they stamps, baseball cards, or other items.

Use this comparison to frame some activities: talk about how museum collections came to be. Who collected and gathered the items on display? Compare this to how campers gathered their own collections at home. Also talk about (both with campers and museum staff) how the exhibits at the museum are arranged – such as the lighting and temperature for a certain exhibit.

Have campers set up a “Trip Museum” back at camp, consisting of items they’ve obtained on field trips; think of it as a group show and tell, where everyone participates and contributes to the collection.
